The runaway week

I quite literally cannot believe how quickly this week has gone. It's almost like someone has fast forwarded bits of it to trick me. Anyhoo I will have to do a summary of last weekend and the week so far other wise I'll be wittering on for days.

So, here goes - hold on to your hats.

Last weekend was utterly fab - for the majority. I missed my boy massively but it was even more lovely to come back home knowing I had him waiting for me.

So, I left Yorkshire at about 7.30am to get down to my grandma's for about 10am. Was all going swimmingly until 500 yards before I had to turn off towards her house. I got pulled over for speeding, complete FAIL.

I was mega scared because I've never been caught speeding before. I've been stopped by the police before but that was because I was dawdling around where I used to live and they thought I'd stolen my own car, chumps. Anyway, the officer told me to get out of my car and get into his. We exchanged details...not like that, he wasn't my type!

He told me I had been going 97.84 mph and a smidgen more and I could have been looking at a ban. That's scary enough in itself, can't imagine life without my car. I didn't think it was a good time to mention that the reason I had been travelling at such speed was because I didn't have my sunglasses with me and the glare of the sun was so severe that I was trying to get off the motorway as quickly as possible. I think it probably would have harmed my defence.

Ooo that was the other thing - he did the whole 'if you do not mention when questioned thing' I felt like I was on the bill! Anyway, he seized my licence and I got on my way.

Got to grandmas and then we all went in my uncle's car to meet my gorgeous sis, bro(his +1) and nephew. The reason for my visit to grandma's was that my dad was home from Abu Dhabi - and also my step-mum came over from Poland for a few days to see us.

It's so lush when we all catch up. We normally eat at a lovely restaurant (this time it was a very authentic Italian where they made proper ice-cream nom) and we just all have a massive chat followed by laughter, and more chats. It's nice to be surrounded by people that know you so well...closely followed by wishing that knife next to you would pick itself up and harm one of them....but only slightly.

Went back to grandmas (my bro and sis went home) and then chatted some more to dad, drank wine and listened to grandma's TV which was blaring from the other room. I slept on her sofa which is a proper old people's sofa - leather with big puffed up cushions, it wasn't the most comfortable sleep. I also woke up at 5am because she had her radio on...again with the blaring.

Sunday, we got up and dad, step-ma and I went to into Watford shopping. It's quite a good place actually, the mall is huge. We didn't have much time there because dad was getting grumpy but just enough time for me to be bought some shoes from office - I love these trips!

We also stopped on the way home and bought M some Jewish food. My dad's family are Jewish and live near lots of lovely delis and M hasn't tried proper bagels (he's had bagels from the supermarket but they're not the same don't you know). Also got him some chopped herring but he didn't enjoy that so much.

Drove home - 70mph all the way I might add.

This week I have participated in the following activities:-

  • Attending the police station for presenting my documents. I was nervous and M kept telling me that they were going to do all the dusting of my fingers and stuff but obviously I knew he was joking. It amused me no end to know that on my speeding ticket there were two codes to say what the policeman thought I was (ethnicity) and what I actually was. And he thought I was O1 which is Chinese! I don't look a bit Chinese! Hilarious but maybe I should contest my ticket. If he can't see what I look like how does he know I was speeding?
  • Visiting the wonderful Michelle on Shrove (I still don't know what that means...and I went to a Catholic school - or is that bit not religious *confused*) Tuesday for some rather delicious pancakes (see picture) and a good old catch up as I haven't seen her since Christmas.

  • Buying a new green coloured vase for my flowers. It occurred to me that I don't have any and the one that M had was a bit old fashioned.
  • Buying some clothes from Sainsbury (I was desperate and it was late) and then deciding I don't like them, taking them back and realising M had thrown away the receipt which was in the bag - so only enabling me to get a credit note but due to the lack of receipt getting full price back for said items even though they had 25% off...err bonus!
  • Having a really bad week for sleep because of the little black trampling on my head. She managed to open my bedside draw at 4.30am on Thursday morning, the little scamp.
  • Booking tickets to go and see LadyHawke which is V.exciting as I luurve gigs. Need to listen to more of her stuff so I can get familiar with it before we go. M told me that he booked Gomez tickets for us too which is mega. I've seen them about 4 times now but it will be his first so double excitment. Also we're going to Liverpool on 9th March to see a band called Enjoy Destroy. We're on the guest list for that one because my brother is good friends with them and was just on tour with the band in Europe, it's not what you know etc.

And finally, and most importantly I have been loving my gorgeous boyfriend. I'm conscious that I don't want to turn this blog all soppy because it's not one of *those* blogs. We have our blips as most couples do but we always come back much stronger. Today he has made my lunch for me...mini sandwiches! Awesomeness! I have attached a picture to show the scale and the fact that they are actually mini sandwiches. He got the little loaves from the bakery yesterday and put cream cheese and cucumber in them. They tasted most delightful.

Tomorrow we are going to go to Skipton to have a walk in the countryside. I'm sure some pork purchases will be made at some point (the pie shop that M loves is there). And then on Sunday we are going to the tip - I love the tip! I love throwing things away, but more so into the massive bins, satisfaction guaranteed.

WAKE UP! I've finished now.

Till the next time...

Milky milky

So, this morning when I was driving to work I approached a Peugeot parked at the side of the road with the boot open. Now, you're probably thinking this doesn't sound very interesting, but heck, wait a moment, it is.

The man that was clearly the owner of the car was walking towards the open boot with an empty glass milk bottle in his hand.

I thought that in itself was a bit random but as I came closer to the car I took a nosey look into the boot and there were loads of crates of milk bottles, some empty, some full...and some orange juice! So, what did I stumble upon? I have surmised that it could be one of the following:-

  1. An underground secret milk society formed from residents of housing estates, keen to avoid recession hiked milk prices, producing their own milk, using their own cows.
  2. An employed by a dairy milk man who decided to sell milk 'on the cheap' to local people.
  3. A serial killing murderer who is slowly poisoning certain parts of Leeds (I add, this was a particularly grotty area with rather undesirable road surfaces) for pleasure and culling purposes.
  4. A nutter who follows the *actual* milk man and steals the milk which is put on doorsteps.
  5. An actual bona fide milk man who is very adverse to cold weather (even though it was mild this morning) that uses his own car to deliver legit milk.
  6. The milk float broke down, hence the car being used.

I'm not too sure what the answer is myself. I hope this doesn't spell the end to the very iconic milk float. We used to get milk delivered, semi skimmed red and silver topped to be precise. However, the milk man was a bit creepy.

He used to come every Friday and collect his money for the week and mum used to always make us go to the door...hmmm maybe there was a reason for that (insert gag about one of us being the milk man's child and getting quality time with him) . That reminds me of the time I convinced my brother that he didn't belong to the family and his parents were the people that owned the local pub. My dad played along with it for about a day one weekend, how we laughed.

I don't recall ever seeing someone hitching a ride on a milk float after a heavy night out though, as is always implied on television. Or in fact someone stealing milk.

I still need to write about my weekend but I'll save that as I'm at work and already in super slacker mode as it is.

Until laterz

Love is rose

I have been mega super whoop-ass busy for the passed few days so I haven't had any time to do any bloggings, it sucks.

Anyway, I will be back tomorrow to update about my marvellous weekend in London (except the speeding ticket - more to follow).

In the meantime I'll just say, when I got home on Sunday, M told me that he'd broken something in the garage and that I needed to go in there. I went in and just inside the door were the most amazing roses ever! 24 of the blighters! It was the most wonderfullist surprise after the tiring journey.

So, here they are:-

The long and winding road....to Whitby

So, we went to Whitby on the most romantic day of the year, allegedly.

On the way there, it struck us that we might perhaps encounter some snow because North Yorkshire had it quite badly last week.

Then I decided that we are actually like storm chasers, only we chase snow and try and get trapped in it.

Luckily, we were prepared for snow this time with our shovel and water and chocolate and ropes. Ok that's all a lie, but we did think about it for a second and realised we were fully unprepared AGAIN.

We made it there without fuss though. We decided to park at the top near the abbey and walk down the 199 steps into the town (for more information about quite possibly one of the most romantic, lovely, beautiful places in this world go to www.thewhitbyguide.co.uk) It was sooooo frackin windy and cold but we had wrapped up so only our faces took the battering.

Romantic things which happened during the day:-
  1. Someone was getting married there - yes I'm sure it was very romantic! We didn't see the bride, groom or any of the party, apart from one girl trying to traverse through the Whitby cobbles in the most ridiculously high party shoes. We laughed and commented on how stupid she was and how unromantically her boyfriend was dragging her through the town in a rather embarrassed and slightly aggressive way.
  2. Two seagulls were sharing a moon lit super (during the day) of.....seagull. I hadn't noticed at first whilst I was taking the picture, thinking how sweet they looked. M pointed out they were pecking at another bird. Gross.
  3. A very over the top gothic/victorian/edwardian/weirdian couple (she in a ball-gown, he in a top hat and tails) were enjoying a rather leisurely stroll around the town. It became apparent to us that they were more keen on seeing people's reactions to them than actually looking deeply into each other's eyes, but hey - maybe they were going to go home and have rampant sexuals afterwards.
  4. A lady was romantically trying to burn people whilst waving her cigarette about and walking down a crowded street with a very worrying looking group of older women. M happened to say to me "mind that cigarette" at which point she, in a very loving way (I'm reaching) said "there's nowt wrong with a cigarette like". I was very scared and we decided to speed up our walk to escape the gang of agressive geordie ladies. Why is everyone so angry these days?!
  5. The fish and chip restaurant we decided to eat in had stopped taking card payments before Christmas, how romantic! So, we had to finish our meal and then go to the arcade nearby to find money and go back to pay.
  6. M bought me a cake (again) it was chocolate and yummy from this bakery called Bothams which is like Bettys but not as good, but still good.
Apart from that over spill of romantic behaviour we had a marvellous day as usual.

We tried to go and see Friday 13th (the remake) at the cinema, just to finish the day off romantically but it was absolutely packed out! I've never seen so many young people at the cinema at one go, obviously a very popular choice for teenagers who are in love.

We came home and watched Halloween the remake instead. It was scary actually and quite good. I quite liked Michael Myers though, which clearly I shouldn't do, seeing as he's a heartless monster killer.

Yesterday we just chilled for the day, went out for a little shop and bought a new shower curtain. We also bought some little pots which have chilli seeds in. We're going to try and grow them. I wanted to get sunflowers too but we decided that wasn't so great for our garden because it's quite overlooked (by freaks) and they require quite a lot of garden visiting.

I also dyed my hair. It's really lovely actually, even if I do say so myself. It's quite a bit darker than I wanted, it's a very dark brown but nice. I didn't manage to spill any either which I was very pleased with. Poppy is obviously very happy because she thinks I styled the colour on her shhh - I told her I did.

TIRED!

It's the little things....

So, because I've had a bit of a rubbish week with being in the wars and having to have yet more tests yesterday, M got me a cake. I don't know how he does it.

It was quite possibly the best cake for me evAR! It had piped icing, a cherry and it looked like a snowball. It had some kind of jam inside and a lovely sponge, yummy.

It was a gorgeous gesture by my gorgeous boy.

Today has been fairly uneventful, was trying to rest to look after my back, it's sooooo painful to sit down!

Tomorrow we are going to go on a little outing, possibly to Whitby. I've never actually been up to the Abbey bit, only the graveyard bit. We'll see what happens. Maybe we'll get all dressed up like goths and do some dracula worshiping, if that's what you do?

We were talking earlier about playing on The Game of Life when we were younger, do you remember that? My sister and I absolutely loved it! It was a bit of a strange game for children though, two routes on the board at the beginning, one was straight to work (the business route) and earning less money, one was to 'college' and a potential to earn a lot more.

The players all had little cars that you wheeled round the board. You had the option to get married, have kids, get a nice house and get round with the most money, it was ace.

Actually, maybe more kids these days should be encouraged to play The Game of Life, see what kind of responsibility you need to have children, get a good job and get a cool tracy island looking house. Oooo I might see if my grandma has still got our game when I see her next week.

Oh and just to finish, this cracked me right up, so cute:-

That's all for now....

Injections, slips and cool magazines

It's been a while. I've been a bit busy this week! Not being doing particularly much but life has just taken me away from the laptop for longer periods.

So, yesterday I had to have some blood tests for some on going stuff. The nurse was like a vampire witch! But that actually makes her sound quite cool and she wasn't at all. She took the blood from my hand which just really frackin hurt.

She said it would swell up and that I should keep it up and pull a cold flannel on it, but I was on my way to work so that was not really very practical. I've got to go back tomorrow and have some other stuff done, but I won't go into that, there are men reading this like.

I got home last night and felt very sorry for myself and my pricked hand. So M got me a chinese and made me hot milky drinks, what a legend.

Today I got up, got ready for work as normal, showered and didn't have time to dry my hair so I was rushing about a bit. Put my shoes on, said goodbye to M and walked out of the house. Got half way down the drive, which is on a steep hill and felt my foot slipping in front of me. Before I knew it I'd completely fallen flat on my arse! Ouch. I hadn't realised that it was soooo icy.

So I took my shoes off and went back in to get my trainers so that I could get into the car and go to work, obviously I stopped inside for a moment to get some sympathy for my shock and pains. If only I'd had time for a cup of sugary tea. Grrr. My bottom hurts now, well my tail bone area.

M had a CCTV camera set up on the drive because he had one of his cars wing mirrors smashed off a few years ago so the whole horrific event was caught on camera. We watched it back tonight to see if it was worthy of a you've been framed! £250 award, and it is, but too shockingly embarrassing. I also did this weird thing with my leg which I have no recollection of but it did look like I was mastering some kind of yoga position.

Tonight we tried to go to the cinema to see the new Underworld film. However, we got to the chosen picture emporium and it was absolutely heaving! We decided to go to Borders instead and have a wander round, browse some cool books. I love looking in the magazine section. There are so many amazing mags in there.

I was reading a magazine called Bitch which was dripping with cool articles. I was a little disgruntled at paying £4.75 for it and I think most people that picked it up thought the same because it was very well thumbed.

There was another magazine which I can't remember the name of but it was for goths and it was dead excellent. They had loads of cool adverts in for Strange Monster T-Shirts and Crude Things - which were like cool dolls and other equally ace stuff.

We had a little look around paperchase and I lusted after most of the owl motif stuff. Then we went upstairs and had a frappucino. It was M's turn to oggle someone of opposite sex, well more specifically her breast area but they were very on display and I spotted them at the same time which was funny.

Part of Starbucks had been cordoned off because they were doing a speed dating thing. M and I could only see one woman that was vaguely attractive but still, it's not something to knock, this whole dating online, on speed, in the shops etc.

I've started using Twitter. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about so now I'm following Alan Carr and Russell Brand amongst others. It seems quite interesting, a bit like Facebook updates but we'll see how it pans out.

Going to go to bed now and rest up my poorly pricked and battered body.

Disaster in the Dales....

I made it out of the pixie parlour finally. I was stuck for a couple of days but then sadly had to go back to work and life. Still very scary and icey out on the roads, especially on our road, why the hell don't the council recognise the problems and do some more gritting, the swines.

Nothing much else to report, apart from that I had to go to the doctors and now I have to have some blood and other tests next week, joy. M is doing his best to look after me, only I'm a stubborn mule and fiercely independent, so he's not really getting far. But still as gorgeous as ever, well, more actually.

Another thing before I proceed to my story - I don't understand this phenomenon with Lady "I hope to be a great contribution to pop culture." Ga Ga. So she's had a couple of catchy songs...ok....and she's blonde and she's jumping on the 'quirky' fashion bandwagon. Give me a break. I suspect if her song came on in a club there might be some shuffling from side to side involved but she's really not all that special. I wish people would get excited about great chords or fantastic lyrics instead of the latest synthesized shite.

Today we decided to go for a little drive. I said to M that I would like to have a drive into the lovely Yorkshire countryside so he programmed a postcode (he wouldn't tell me where for) into the nav of sat and we set off in his work car - he's on call this weekend. We drove well passed Skipton, and into the Dales.

It was very beautiful, still quite snowy but the roads were ok. You could tell the snow had been much deeper earlier in the week. We saw some Crags...apparently they are hills, I've never heard of that before. We started to climb up a large hill and M said that we were going up and over towards our final destination. The hill started off well, it got colder...about -1 degrees and was very quiet on the road.

The road narrowed and a section ahead of us was covered in snow. We looked at it and thought it must have fallen off the wall to the side of the road, the snow was really built up on those bits. So we carried on. We got round a bend and up a very steep bit. As our intrepid vauxhall zafira (we don't get a choice on the pool car for M's work) peered over the crest of the hill....DISASTER....white for as far as we could see...and lots more hill. We were stuck.

I was in shock. I started having mental images of the police finding our frozen corpses in a couple of days huddled round the heater having drunk the last dregs of the bottle of evian I purchased at the garage before we set off. I can't die like this...The Hills is on tomorrow.

We were both very quiet for some time. M was very apologetic, despite it not being his fault at all. We were in the middle of contemplating trying to reverse down a the very steep previous section of road....when in the distance a huge modified defender svx with massive wheels came over the hill the other way, followed by a discovery. We signaled to them that we were in a spot of bother.

M got out of the car in his t-shirt, that's how unprepared we were. A young boy of about 18 got out of the defender together with another boy of about 14 - they looked to be brothers and it seemed to be their dad driving the other car. Much conversation ensued, I waited in the car and did my *very* concerned face. It was decided that the boy in the defender would try to tow us up the hill. They said the road at the other side was fine.

I couldn't really take it all in at this point. How the frack was he going to reverse up through this really really deep snow with our little people carrier. So, after much clutch smoking and the defender reversing and moving forwards again to get the positioning right, he managed to drag us to safety. As we passed the discovery I looked in and there was an old couple and a lady. I presumed this was the grandma and granddad and mum of the two boys.

I felt bad for a few seconds for interrupting their family trip out. And then I was just thankful to be alive.

After we'd made it up the road slightly M got out and took a picture....

I have to stress the picture by no means depicts how bad the bit was that we got out of. It was just to M's calves when he got out of the car, the picture was taken well within the safety zone.

What the hell would have happened to us if those kind kind boys hadn't come and rescued us I have no idea. Someone was clearly trying to save our bacon today.

Well, I'm sure we would have been fine but it was v.scary all the same. I've never had to be towed out of anywhere, let alone the snow. We've just been discussing the fact that we didn't even have a rope in the car.

A nice florescent jacket and a tyre pressure gauge, but no rope. We're going to get one now, just in case we ever get that reckless and travel into the dales with only a bottle of evian and a packet of spearmint gum.

Oh noes! I iz snowed in teh howse

I have nothing spectacular to add here. Apart from that it's too frackin cold and I'm too tired to write anything about my end of week build up.

That's not spectacular, I realise that now. More to follow. Much MUCH more.

So....have a picture of Poppy contemplating a trip to the shops. She said she'd rather not, thanks all the same.

Introducing Burt.....

So, we went out and made a snowman. He looks a bit like the devil but I have named him Burt, he gets very upset with the slightest mention of the red horny one. I am particularly happy with the results though and the fact that I tucked my jeans into my boots and I am completely dry! Snowman building is so much better these days....

Snow slacker

So it was all white over night and it snowed for hours! I believe from the news that it has been snowing up and down the country and is the worst snow for 18 years - but I'm not used to it coming from the South. I think it only snowed once where I used to live and that was a very light dusting.

I said to M this morning (I glanced out of the window at 6.30am and was so excited I didn't think I'd get back to sleep) "Wow! I haven't seen this much snow since I had moon boots and a wooden sledge"! He then reminded me that my dad used to live in Switzerland and I had to change my statement and confirm I meant in this country. M is used to it though, it mostly snows here every year.

I remember being at my grandma's house and going out with our sledge. I seem to have this thing in my mind that my uncle made it for us but I'm probably making that up. We got our wellies and duffel coats on and went down to the common. We played in the snow for hours, only coming inside to change our socks and gloves.

I never understood the meaning of fingerless gloves. My mum bought me some (with the mitten bit over the top) and they had a really cool pattern on which I loved but my fingers were always cold!

I was thinking I had some old pictures of us doing that but I've just had a look and all I can find is a random one of my sister and I at Fleet pond in the snow. My sister is wearing some particularly fetching ear muffs though.

So, you'll see from the picture that Poppy the explorer had a little wander out this morning. She was out for quite a bit and the door was open. It was flappin freezing.

I forgot to mention, they don't grit the road which we live on, which leads to the main road. Which is a bit rude considering it's a giant hill and there are loads of accidents at the bottom. This in turn meant that I couldn't get to work this morning, hence the snow slacker! M is also at home but he can work from here which is ok for him. Not so much for me because he keeps telling me to be quiet because he's 'working'.

It's a bit of a pain because I don't get paid if I'm not there, but I'd rather be safe at home than out with someone crashing into me. I doubt there'll be many people in the office today anyway, it's still snowing now. I never thought I'd be in a situation where I can't get to work because of the snow, weirdness.

I'm still in my pjs, I figure what's the point of getting dressed. Might have a nice cup of tea now.

Stay safe out there kids,

Pixie
