Eggcitement

I must apologise for my absence.  I'm finding it easier doing weekly updates at the moment because life is pretty hectic.

Obviously that's good, but it also means I'm not getting the down time to blog that I'd like.  Never fear as one of my favourite times of the year is coming up so M and I will have a few extra days to chill out.  Seriously, what is not to like about Easter.
  • Eggs.  Not the chocolate variety but the chicken based ones you can paint.
  • Easter egg hunts.  I will, one day, organise a giant hunt which takes 3 days to finish.  You heard it here first.
  • The Easter bunny (not sure whether to be scared of him so have thought of him favorably).
  • Hot cross buns.  This needs no explanation.
  • Daffodils.  Obviously this could come under a 'spring' category but reminds me of Easter.
  • Chocolate.  Mini eggs, creme eggs, hollow chocolate egg goodness.  Oh and those chocolate cornflake nests with mini eggs in. *drool*
  • Bunnies.  I'm not sure if this is turning a bit Disney but I'll chuck them into the pot too.  But not the actual pot.  Ugh.
  • Easter bonnets.  I think I will make one for myself and one for Poppy.  She likes bonnets.
  • Spending time with the family, obviously.
  • Jesus dying.  What?!  Ok, I'm kidding.
One of my best memories of Easter is a slightly random one.  I was seven and my whole world centered around the brownies.  I used to go with my sister.  We went on trips away and learnt knitting and how to cook.  It was ace.

Anyway, the yearly Easter egg contest had arrived.  Competition was fierce and I was worried with the day of the contest drawing ever nearer I had no idea to speak of.  It got to day.  Mum asked me what I wanted to do.  Unusually I had no clue.

Mum boiled a couple of eggs and I got out some scraps of felt.  One hour till show time and still with no idea mum decided to take control and started to draw a face on the egg.  She fashioned a dress and some dark hair to stick on top of the egg.  A couple of bendy straws later and the egg resembled a woman.

I asked her who it was, she told me it was 'eggwina curry'.  Of course!  The whole salmonella debacle had just hit the headlines and it was eggtremely topical.  I didn't really understand.  I saw the news but I was a bit young to understand it.

When we got to brownies there were some good efforts.  A baby egg in a bed, a dinosaur egg - even a clown egg, complete with a sparkly costume.  My egg had a badge with her name on and it was the only egg to attract a laugh from all of the adults.  In fact, much to all of the children's surprise I came second!

My mum was so good at fashioning things into costumes, getting last minute witty entries to competitions together.  I guess I took it for granted, that's just what mums do isn't it?  Well no, it's not.  She aint half clever my mum.

I don't agree with all the over advertising and marketing that Easter now gets.  I just love the thought of creativity and chicks (the fury kind).

Oh, almost forgot.  I got the J O B!  Very exciting.  I will again be working in the city and in a completely new position at the hospital.  It's going to be a challenge but I think I'm up for it.  Hopefully I'll be able to spot some dishy doctors sauntering down the corridor.  What, it's not like ER?

I'm sleepy now so I'll go.  Remember to wear your Tuesday pants tomorrow people.

Hehe - I love the Egg-wina Curry Easter egg story - what an absolute stroke of genius by your Mum! :o) Easter is my favourite time of year - especially when it falls late, so all the Spring flowers are out, the choccy eggs are in and the days are getting longer.
