Eggcitement

I must apologise for my absence.  I'm finding it easier doing weekly updates at the moment because life is pretty hectic.

Obviously that's good, but it also means I'm not getting the down time to blog that I'd like.  Never fear as one of my favourite times of the year is coming up so M and I will have a few extra days to chill out.  Seriously, what is not to like about Easter.
  • Eggs.  Not the chocolate variety but the chicken based ones you can paint.
  • Easter egg hunts.  I will, one day, organise a giant hunt which takes 3 days to finish.  You heard it here first.
  • The Easter bunny (not sure whether to be scared of him so have thought of him favorably).
  • Hot cross buns.  This needs no explanation.
  • Daffodils.  Obviously this could come under a 'spring' category but reminds me of Easter.
  • Chocolate.  Mini eggs, creme eggs, hollow chocolate egg goodness.  Oh and those chocolate cornflake nests with mini eggs in. *drool*
  • Bunnies.  I'm not sure if this is turning a bit Disney but I'll chuck them into the pot too.  But not the actual pot.  Ugh.
  • Easter bonnets.  I think I will make one for myself and one for Poppy.  She likes bonnets.
  • Spending time with the family, obviously.
  • Jesus dying.  What?!  Ok, I'm kidding.
One of my best memories of Easter is a slightly random one.  I was seven and my whole world centered around the brownies.  I used to go with my sister.  We went on trips away and learnt knitting and how to cook.  It was ace.

Anyway, the yearly Easter egg contest had arrived.  Competition was fierce and I was worried with the day of the contest drawing ever nearer I had no idea to speak of.  It got to day.  Mum asked me what I wanted to do.  Unusually I had no clue.

Mum boiled a couple of eggs and I got out some scraps of felt.  One hour till show time and still with no idea mum decided to take control and started to draw a face on the egg.  She fashioned a dress and some dark hair to stick on top of the egg.  A couple of bendy straws later and the egg resembled a woman.

I asked her who it was, she told me it was 'eggwina curry'.  Of course!  The whole salmonella debacle had just hit the headlines and it was eggtremely topical.  I didn't really understand.  I saw the news but I was a bit young to understand it.

When we got to brownies there were some good efforts.  A baby egg in a bed, a dinosaur egg - even a clown egg, complete with a sparkly costume.  My egg had a badge with her name on and it was the only egg to attract a laugh from all of the adults.  In fact, much to all of the children's surprise I came second!

My mum was so good at fashioning things into costumes, getting last minute witty entries to competitions together.  I guess I took it for granted, that's just what mums do isn't it?  Well no, it's not.  She aint half clever my mum.

I don't agree with all the over advertising and marketing that Easter now gets.  I just love the thought of creativity and chicks (the fury kind).

Oh, almost forgot.  I got the J O B!  Very exciting.  I will again be working in the city and in a completely new position at the hospital.  It's going to be a challenge but I think I'm up for it.  Hopefully I'll be able to spot some dishy doctors sauntering down the corridor.  What, it's not like ER?

I'm sleepy now so I'll go.  Remember to wear your Tuesday pants tomorrow people.

Hula Hoop La

I ache.  I have a feeling it's going to be worse tomorrow.  I only have myself to blame.  I decided to try out some extreme hula hooping on the wii.

Picture the scene.  Contorting my hips into a large circular motion.  Not only to the left, but to the right too.  Slowly picking up speed and then leaning each way to pick up more imaginary hoops being thrown at me.  It wasn't pretty.

I only realised half way through that I was actually facing the window, standing in the middle of the living room, looking like someone having a severe back problem.

It's all good fun though, apparently.

I went for an interview today.  It was really good actually.  Fingers crossed I get the job, I need a change.  I'm trying not to be too positive because I'm doing some kind of weird reverse psychology on myself.

Other than that, just another Monday.  But lovely as always.

How gorgeous is this?:-

Not only is a beautiful quote, it's a beautiful necklace too. It's by Hoolala but available at the wonderful Hannah Zakari

Apart from that, put a little bird house in your soul.

Lettings the days goes by, let the water hold me down

I am too tired to update properly.  M has been working silly hours and we've been doing loads away from home.  Very hectic!  We've also bought a Wii which has amused us no end this weekend.

I did say that I was going to post some pictures of my new beauty cabinet/draw thingy and I will, once I have some time.  I know that there are people who are anxious to see it.  Don't lie.

Anyway, today I have mostly been lusting after:-

Boots from AllSaints

And dresses from Topshop mostly this beauty

So there you have it.  Not very exciting.  In the word's of Arnie, I'll be back (and I'm sure he would have added..."when I'm not so tired").

I try out a smile, and I aim it at you

Well, what a beautiful weekend it's been.

I was very disappointed that I couldn't be with my lovely mummy today but we'll hopefully be seeing her in a few weeks.  It's my second year as a kitteh mummy and let me tell you, it's a pleasure to have her.

Today we went into Leeds to have a bimble around the shops.

I looked in so many shops for a matte pink lipstick, not sure why but I've fancied one for ages.  However, it seems that matte is not in fashion at all, only glossy - which is fine but I have loads of lip glosses.

So, Harvey Nichols didn't have any, House of Fraser, Debenhams, zilch.  I had almost given up hope when I stumbled on one in Body Shop.  I'm not sure if you can really see the brilliance of it from the snap but:-

I am rather pleased with it.

I also got some draws to store all my makeup - just a mini set of 6 square draws from Muji.  I've been meaning to have a sort out for ages and now everything is in specific sections, as it should be.  I tried to take some pictures but it's too dark now so I'll do it tomorrow.

After some more browsing and enjoying the sunshine, whilst avoiding the strange people in town, we went and had a lovely meal at the City Inn hotel, next to the canal.  The sun was just setting and the really nice waiter seated us right next to the water.

We've been in there before when mum came up last and stayed there at Christmas.  It was much quieter, apparently every eats on Mother's Day at lunchtime but the food was great.   We didn't make it up to the Sky bar which is, by all accounts, very nice to have a cocktail or two with great views of the city.  We'll have to try that next time.

Now we're home and I'm fuelling my current obsession with foxes glacier mints whilst listening to:-

and M snoring.  I think he's tired after his 75 hour week last week. ♥

Baby Meerkats!

I forgot.

I wanted to share this news article about the latest addition to the Meerkat family at Tropical World in Roundhay Park.

I'm so excited I have a feeling a trip there is in order.

So let me walk these coals till you believe I can cut the mustard

I'm trying at present to summon up some energy to write something poetic for college tomorrow and I'm not getting far.  I really need to take something so I'll try and bash something out.  Even if it does involve a cat.  And a mat.

So M and I have been together for two years today.  Two years!  Time has really flown by.  Although it seems like a lifetime ago that I was in my little flat, driving up to see him at the weekends.  I wouldn't change a second of it, he's awesome.  And I love living up here.

It's rubbish that I can't give him a huge snog - today of all days.  Oh well.  I already have 678 ready for him when he comes back.  Poppy has used it to her advantage and slept on his side of the bed the whole time.  Although not before waking me up each time, almost in a kind of 'err is it ok I lie here, or will dad be back anytime soon?' way.

In other news, I'm gutted that I can't see Band of Horses when they tour the UK.  The gits are only doing London and Glasgow, how selfish.  I hope they come back.

I can't believe it's nearly Easter!  It really has flown up to bite me this year.  I love it though, it's one of my favourite times of the year.  I used to go to the traditional Jewish Passover at grandmas (because she was normally the host of the family) but I very rarely get down there these days which is sad.  I must make more of an effort.

This year the decorations are easy - I still have mine up from last year because I loved them too much to take down.  Sad.  Very sad.

Current dilemma:- Trying to decide whether to buy this funky hair-band.  Questions I'm asking of myself range from, would you buy it at full price?  Just how big is the skull?  Will you look like I have a swimming cap on?  It's all very riveting stuff.  I suspect the answer is I won't buy it but it does look like a complete billy bargain.

I have nothing further to add.  And for that reason, I'm out.

Show me your teeth!

I really like this:-

but it does remind me of this:-

Maybe I could suggest it on one of those MTV mash-up things.

It's a nice day for a white wedding

(and now I have an excuse to post a picture of my sister and I that I found in a bag a few weeks ago - check out those collars!)

So, I said I'd be back to post about the reason why we went down to see my folks a couple of weeks ago.

Well, my sister only went and got engaged on Christmas Day!  Of course, M and I said we'd started a trend by getting engaged when we did...only now everyone is getting married before us (my step-sister is also getting married).  My bro is on a mission to find a girl, so that he can trump us all, and soon.

I am most excited about all this because it means that I will finally be a bridesmaid.  I've never been a bridesmaid before.  I've been to weddings, well, loads in fact.  But never any very close family.  It's not till next year but still, my sister is all systems GO.

I know she won't mind me saying, she's turned into a total bridezilla.  Imagine, if you will, the most organised, deep thinking, typical (anal) virgo you can find, and you will be a little closer to my sister.  She has colours, people numbers, venue, dress - all in two months.

I admire her for having such a purpose.  I would just be inviting a few friends to the pub after the registry office.  We are polar opposites in that respect.

So we went down to see them and to celebrate their engagement at a party my sister had organised.  It was really lovely actually.  My whole family was there and my dad even managed to fly over from Dubai, despite having been in hospital the previous week (told you he was a tough nut).

My step-mum flew over from Poland which was ace and my grandma even put in an appearance.  All in all a good night was had by all.

Plus M and I got to spend some time with mum before and afterwards.  And it's worth going down just for the bed we get to sleep in.  It's soooo comfy.

I have made sure that I have the Oscar highlights on record.  Now, I must retire to bed.  Alone.  Boo.

The view belongs to everyone

I take back my words.  The FLC boys are not has beens.  The gig was most enjoyable.  The set list was mostly the new album but they did throw in a couple of classic tracks to get the crowd going (although the crowd where we were stood were fairly enthusiastic anyway).  A very enjoyable night.

Fast looked a bit like he was having a fit at one point but I presume anyone who's trying to juggle as many instruments as he does would!  They played 'The View Belongs to Everyone' which was fairly ironic because at that very moment two very drunk ladies decided to push their way through the crowd to stand in front of my very eyes.  It was funny though.

As were the very masculine group of blokes that were stood next to us, hugging and telling each other they loved one another, as well as jumping into each other.  A little distracting but clearly the music took them to a special place.  Or maybe the beer.

We were a bit tired yesterday because of the late night (we are so hardcore) so we took ourselves off to a lovely country pub to have a spot of Sunday dinner.  It was lovely.  Also on the way there, ever the Yorkshire tour guide, M showed me Home Farm where they film Emmerdale.

I know that they film the village scenes in Harewood House but I've not seen the house before.  It's all very exciting on these tours, no honestly, I'm easily pleased.

So, this week I start a full week on my own.  Yes, you heard it right, a full week!  How cheeky of M's work to kidnapp him like this!  Poppy and I are going to paint our nails and watch horror films to creep ourselves out, ready for the bumps in the night that will invariably be the heating but of course Poppy (read me) will think burglars have come to get us.

M keeps telling me that there is a baseball bat in the bedroom.  Every time he says this I say back to him, I am a wimp of the biggest order and I don't think they'd be scared by a woman waving a bat at them shouting 'go away you scamps'.

That's it really - except I still haven't explained my trip down South which I will do tonight!

Oh and....how amazing did Nicole Richie look at the Oscars last night?!
She totally suits dark hair and she looks so elegant.  Lovely.  I am in love with her jewellery too.

When did tights get so funky?

I remember putting tights on for school. It was a chore. Apart from when I had a glittery pair in the eighties, and some black and white stripped ones, mostly they were just grey or black and dull dull dull.

Check out these bad boys. How utterly awesome.

They are made by les-queues-de-sardines available at a few posh stores in this country and a couple of online shops.

They're quite pricey so I would suggest cutting nails before trying to get them on, it would be an outfit catastrophe getting a ladder in those beauties!

Fell in love with a girl....

well, two actually.

I need to do a proper post because I have been absent for a week.  A whole week!  Sinful.

Anyway, in the meantime.  Stop what you are doing.  Move towards Rough Trade/Play.com/Itunes to buy or download (and bliss out) to the joy that is The Big Black & The Blue by the gorgeous First Aid Kit.

The tag line of their myspace page is 'we aim for the hearts, not the charts'.  Oh my god ladies, you've captured mine.

'I met up with the king' is out on 8th March (next week in case you've lost track of the date).
